Gone are the days when reality show singing competition fans had to call or text to vote for their favorite.

Fox, FreemantleMedia North America and Syco Entertainment announced Wednesday that starting Nov. 6, ‘X Factor’ fans can vote for their favorite contestant via the Shazam music app. They’ll also be able to use the app to purchase songs performed by the contestants, as well as the recording artists who make appearances.

Shazam’s 105 million U.S. users will also have access to bonus content and video clips from the show.

The move makes Shazam just one plank in the multi-tiered structure that Fox has built to extend voting for the aging competition show as broadly as possible. In addition to the traditional phone calls and text messages, viewers can already vote via the show’s website and official app, as well as on the X Factor Facebook page.

Brief Take: The Shazam partnership derives from FOX’s need to open up even more ways for fans to discover and participate in their aging franchise.
