Social media scrollers were surprised over the weekend to find a larger-than-life version of Slappy, the creepy antagonist from Goosebumps, hanging out next to the Statue of Liberty and sitting on top of the Hollywood sign.

The social takeover comes just as the anticipated 10-episode series premiered on Disney Plus on Friday, October 13. Influencers in New York and Los Angeles shared the videos on Instagram.

To create the CGI version of Slappy and insert him into the scenes, Disney Branded Television collaborated with Los Angeles -based Extra Credit. The result was images that were real enough that some wondered in the comments whether they should go to the sites and check them out.

Inspired by R.L. Stine’s worldwide bestselling book series, Goosebumps follows a group of five high schoolers as they investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle, while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.

Below is the series’ official trailer:

Goosebumps stars Justin Long as Mr. Bratt, Rachael Harris as Nora, Zack Morris as Isaiah, Isa Brones as Margo, Miles McKenna as James, Ana Yi Puig as Isabella and Will Price as Lucas.

The series is executive produced by Nicholas Stoller, Rob Letterman, Harry Winston, Neal H. Mortiz, Iole Lucchese, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Caitlin Friedman, Erin O’Malley and Kevin Murphy. James Eagan and Nick Adams co-executive produce.
