AMC is using the highly anticipated return of their hit zombie drama ‘The Walking Dead’ to kick off the annual horror movie marathon, the channel said Wednesday.
The 19-day ‘Fearfest’ launches Sunday Oct. 13 with the season 4 ‘Walking Dead’ premiere at 9pm ET and runs through Halloween on Oct. 31.
The channel is trying to position itself as the go-to network for horror fans during Halloween season, securing the exclusive TV rights during the month for popular film franchises, including “Halloween,” “Friday the 13th,” “Tremors,” “Candyman,” “Alien” and “The Omen.”
This year’s programming lineup also will celebrate the 40th anniversary of horror classic “The Exorcist” and the 30th anniversary of “Cujo.”
And binge watchers take note: AMC is making it easy for viewers who might need to catch up on past “Walking Dead” seasons by playing every episode beginning Monday, Oct. 7, and running through the premiere.
Brief take: AMC hopes is using the popularity of its hit zombie show and the allure of its classic horror film library to position itself as a go-to network for horror fans during Halloween season.
