Verizon, as the league’s official wireless provider, was previously able to stream nationally televised NFL games three times a week to its customers, on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday nights. In 2014, with a renewed deal in place, Verizon will be able to stream every NFL game, including playoffs and the Super Bowl, and Sunday afternoon games, broadcast on CBS and Fox within customers’ home markets.

The deal is reported to have cost Verizon around $1 billion for four years of mobile streaming. Read more about it at Broadcasting & Cable.

Brief Take: This deal makes Verizon one of the NFL’s biggest business partners outside of its media-rights holders, and is big step towards the inevitable future of mobile content consumption.
