A March Madness tournament full of upset wins has culminated in a 27 percent surge in ticket prices as underdogs UConn and Kentucky advance to the Final Four.
They’re joining Wisconsin—which hasn’t won a championship since the 1940s—and Florida. And although UConn and Kentucky have won championships within the past three years, the makeup of the 2014 Final Four has been unexpected by most fans and analysts.
The average price of a ticket has now risen to $781 for the Final Four, the second-most expensive price ever for a semi-final seat over the past four years. Last year’s average price had risen to $887, propelled by the presence of basketball powerhouses Syracuse, Michigan, and Louisville.
