Netflix described the first season of Stranger Things as “a love letter to the supernatural classics of the ‘80s.” Now the streaming service is taking that to the next level for season two by recreating posters of the films that inspired the series.
From Alien to The Evil Dead; from The Running Man to A Nightmare on Elm Street to Stand By Me, the retro campaign portrays Stranger Thing cast members in images that pay tribute to each movie’s original poster.
Netflix has been releasing one image a week, under the #StrangerThursdays hashtag, as part of a larger marketing effort that includes rewatching past episodes, behind-the-scenes tidbits and fun memes and gifs based on the show.
The hit series took home five Creative Arts Emmys over the weekend, which included a win for main title design by Imaginary Forces.

In season two, it’s 1984 and even though Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) has been rescued from the Demogorgon and the Upside Down, he’s not all the way out of the woods yet. Will and his friends Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) face a bigger, more sinister entity when season two returns on Friday, October 27.
