“It’s so much more than a game. It’s a vehicle to push positive social change.”

The three-part documentary series Shut Up and Dribble from Showtime Sports chronicles the modern history of the NBA, focusing on how basketball players have grown their brands beyond the court to become cultural icons and activists.

Executive produced by LeBron James, the name Shut Up and Dribble was inspired by Fox News conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham’s comment about James’ involvement in politics.

The series delves into the impact of NBA players when it comes to social, cultural, and political activism and features stars such as Kendrick Lamar, Charles Barkley, Justin Timberlake and many others. It also uses archival footage to feature historical moments such as Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors refusing to visit President Donald Trump in the White House, and the Black Lives Matter movement.

For the trailer, Showtime teamed up with Statement Advertising and featured audio from Martin Luther King Jr’s “What is Your Life’s Blueprint?” speech to drive the narrative.

Maverick Carter executive produces along with James. The series is directed by Gotham Chopra and narrated by sports journalist Jemele Hill.

“Considering the NBA’s multi-generational influence on culture – from music, to fashion, consumer behavior and politics, my take is that basketball is truly America’s Game,” said Chopra in a statement. “Maybe you’ll agree. And oh – please vote on November 6th. It matters.”

Shut Up and Dribble premieres November 3 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
