Showtime digs into the complicated person who was Los Angeles Lakers superstar Wilt Chamberlain in new three-part docuseries, Goliath, premiering on demand and on Paramount Plus on Friday, July 14, and debuting on Showtime on Sunday, July 16.

“Everything about Will was excessive,” says sports writer Jackie MacMullan in the above trailer. Besides MacMullan, Kevin Garnett, Pat Riley, Rick Barry, Bob Ryan, Tom Meschery, Dr. Todd Boyd, Jemele HIll, Jerry West and clinical psychologist Orna Guralnik all offer their perspective on the NBA legend via a series of interviews.

Chamberlain was, on one hand, the “world-famous, photogenic, Black, millionaire basketball player,” says one person. On the other hand, “no one loved Goliath,” says another, and “I think he is one of the most misunderstood people that I have ever seen,” says the trailer’s final voice.

The series digs into not only Chamberlain’s basketball career and athletic prowess, but also his personal life, politics and business. The producers employ artificial intelligence to recreate Chamberlain’s voice to narrate his own words, while archival footage is provided by Chamberlain’s estate.

Goliath is produced by Village Roadshow Television and Gotham Chopra’s Religion of Sports in association with Kevin Garnett’s Content Cartel, Happy Madison Productions and Heeltap! Entertainment.

Goliath is making its world premiere at the Uninterrupted Film Festival powered by Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday, July 13. It’s directed by Rob Ford and Christopher Dillon and executive produced by Ford, Charles J. Lindsay, William Lindsay, Matt Mosko, Garnett, Mike Marangu, Brian Bennett, Shannon Perry, Chopra and Ammeth Sankaran. Victor Buhler co-executive produces.
