“We live in a death-denying culture, and I don’t want it to be that way. I’m celebrating.”
So says one of the participants in Showtime’s new documentary, “Time of Death,” which takes on the tough subject of what happens at the end of life.
Last spring, Showtime took on this subject in a fictional format, with the touching and fearless finale of “The Big C.” “Time of Death” explores the profound situations in which everyone will eventually find themselves.
“‘Time of Death is ... a very powerful and unusual piece of television,” wrote Showtime President David Nevins to reporters in the film’s press kit. “It is not the easiest show to watch, but I’ve always wanted to explore the subject in detail. Death is the most universal topic there is, and yet its examination is largely taboo in our culture.”
The documentary series is produced by Magical Elves and executive produced by Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz and Alexandra Lipsitz, and Miggi Hood.
“Time of Death” premieres Friday, November 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
