Sean Penn is President Nixon’s loyal – and ultimately, indicted – Attorney General John Mitchell and Julia Roberts is his larger-than-life socialite wife, Martha in Starz’ upcoming series, Gaslit, based on the podcast Slow Burn.

Despite her party affiliation and her marriage, Martha is the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in the Watergate scandal that took down his presidency. While her powerful husband tries to mitigate the damage and mollify the president, he also finds that he can’t control his wife, with whom he remains hopelessly in love even as she endangers his position.

From the team behind Prime Video’s Homecoming, which also starred Roberts, Gaslit also features Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Legion) as John Dean, Betty Gilpin (G.L.O.W.) as Mo Dean, Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) as G. Gordon Liddy and Darby Camp as Marty Mitchell.

Gaslit was created and executive produced by Robbie Pickering. Matt Ross directed and executive produced. Sam Esmail, via his overall deal with Universal Cable Productions, and Chad Hamilton served as executive producers under their production banner Esmail Corp. Roberts executive produced under her banner Red Om Films, along with co-executive producers Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill. Anonymous Content and Slate’s Gabriel Roth and Josh Levin also executive produced. Leon Neyfakh, who created the podcast, consulted on the project.

Gaslit premieres on Starz April 24.
