The LAPD thinks it’s a good idea to pair homicide detectives with actors who can use their “actor skills” to help solve murders in YouTube Red’s Ryan Hansen Solves Crime on Television.

The crime show satire stars Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange Is the New Black), as no-nonsense Detective Mathers, who gets partnered up with semi-unknown Veronica Mars star Ryan Hansen, who plays a version of himself.

The eight-episode series also features guest appearances from Hollywood stars such as Kristen Bell, Joe McHale (Community), Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men) and Donald Faison (Scrubs), and contains no shortage of bizarre behavior and pop culture references.

“You’re not gonna shoot Kristen Bell,” the star says, dressed as Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.

“It looks like orange is the new white,” Wiley says sternly, not getting the chuckles that ensue.

Ryan Hansen Solves Crime on Television is created by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), who serves as writer, director and executive producer. The series is executive produced by Thurber, Scott Stuber, Beau Bauman, Krysia Plonka and Tracey Baird.

It premieres October 25 on YouTube Red and debuts September 23 at the Tribeca TV Festival.
