Facebook’s is taking its relationship status to a new level with Make Up or Break Up, a live show on its recently launched Watch platform that puts the fate of couples’ love lives in hands of strangers.
Hosted by sex and relationship social influencer Shannon Boodram, who goes by Shan Boody, viewers vote in the comments whether a couple should #makeup or #breakup, and the final tally determines whether they should stay together or split.
“Every couple has a breaking point,” the trailer says. “Luckily the internet is here to help.”
Boodram told The Verge https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/19/16328746/shan-boodram-interview-facebook-live-dating-show it’s an experiment in the “wisdom of a crowd”, saying the opinion of a crowd is statistically more objective than any one person’s thoughts or feelings, or advice from friends or family who are often biased.
Make Up or Break Up is one of a handful of short form series Facebook has funded for its Watch platform. Others include docuseries Humans of New York, competition series Last State Standing, and scripted comedies Strangers and Loosely Exactly Nicole.
Make Up or Break Up is from Thumb Candy Media, with executive producer Corin Nelson as showrunner.
The 20-minute episodes Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST.
