Crafted from a newly-discovered trove of 70mm footage and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings, CNN Films’ Apollo 11 takes viewers straight to the heart of NASA’s most celebrated mission – the one that first put men on the Moon and forever made Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin household names.

The broadcast campaign for the film, created with assists from Atlanta-based Mad Hat Creative and sound mixer Mister Sunshine, puts the footage front and center. Some spots in the campaign rely solely on the visuals and natural sound effects, while others are based on that era’s music, such as Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky.”

The end result is a campaign that prepares viewers for a spectacular journey into humanity’s greatest feat, which took place 50 years ago this year.

Apollo 11, which already has been seen in a limited theatrical release, premieres Sunday, June 23, on CNN.
