Los Angeles-based creative studio Picturemill looked both backwards and forwards in designing the main titles for Paramount Plus’ latest Star Trek series, Strange New Worlds. The sequence calls back to the original series as it prepares viewers for that series’ prequel, starring Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, the original captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, later helmed by James T. Kirk.

The sequence opens with the lights just illuminating the brand-new space cruiser as it prepares to explore the outer reaches of space. Mount as Pike narrates the famous words, “its five-year mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”
As the sequence goes on, the familiar-but-slightly-different theme music plays and viewers see the ship going about its business of visiting “strange new worlds.” What the crew finds in those new places is what the 10-episode season explores.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which premiered Thursday, May 5 on Paramount Plus, also stars Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock and Rebecca Romijn as Number One. It also stars Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, and features recurring guest star Bruce Horak as Hemmer.
The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story by Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers serve as co-showrunners, with Goldsman directing the premiere episode. Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet serve as executive producers in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Aaron Baiers. The series is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
It is streaming exclusively on Paramount Plus in the U.S., Latin America, Australia and the Nordics. The series is airing on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and stream on Crave in Canada.
