Picture this: A blimp made out of a giant baguette flies over the Eiffel Tower. Inside, two-time Super Bowl Champion and five-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning stands, holding a glass of red. Jumping out from the blimp behind him are enough colorfully-clothed skydivers to form the Olympic rings. “Ah Paris,” Manning sighs after taking a big sniff of a fistful of baguette.

Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to NBC Sports’ marketing team either.

Manning, who founded Omaha Productions after retiring from the NFL in 2016, stars in NBC Sports’ first spot of its fall campaign for the Paris Olympics 2024, which will take place next summer. The spot debuted Thursday morning on NBC’s Today and will air during NBC’s Thursday Night Football match-up between the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions with coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET. The game is airing on NBC, Peacock and Universo.

“Peyton Manning was the perfect choice to begin our fall promotional campaign for next summer’s Paris 2024 Olympic Games given his appeal to the very large and passional football audience that is about to regather with friends and family,” said Jenny Storms, CMO, Entertainment and Sports, NBCUniversal, in a statement. “As we get closer to next summer’s Games, we look forward to evaluating Peyton’s marketing ideas along with those of other celebrities.”

The promo will run across NBCU’s linear, social, and digital platforms throughout the fall and is part of a larger campaign that will feature additional versions with different talent in the months to come. This spot was produced in partnership with Omaha Productions.

The Paris Olympics will take place July 26 - August 11, 2024 with NBC and streaming service Peacock serving as NBCUniversal’s primary platforms for airing the Games in the U.S.
