OWN has released the official trailer for its highly anticipated new drama, David Makes Man.
The coming-of-age series, from Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight), centers on a 14-year-old prodigy from the projects whose weighted by the death of his closest friend and leading his family out of poverty. Amid his circumstances, he must choose between the streets that raised him or the higher education that may offer him a way out.
“Everybody has to choose, David,” a voice narrates in the spot. “You choose or you drown.”
The show stars newcomer Akili McDowell and Emmy-nominated Phylicia Rashad, along with Alana Arenas, Isaiah Johnson, Travis Coles, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre, Cayden K. Williams, Ade Chike Torbert and Jordan Bolger.
Dee Harris-Lawrence serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside McCraney. Mike Kelley, Melissa Loy, and Oprah Winfrey executive produce under their Page Fright production banner, along with Michael B. Jordan via his Outlier Society Productions.
David Makes Man premieres Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 10 p.m.
