Ansel Elgort (West Side Story) stars as a young crime reporter who realizes he’s bitten off more than he can chew in HBO Max’s Tokyo Vice, loosely inspired by Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction first-hand account of covering the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat.
The official trailer (above) was cut by Northern Lights, which is also creating :30s and :15s for the series.

Tokyo Vice, which is executive produced and directed by Michael Mann (Miami Vice, Heat, Collateral) and was shot on location in Tokyo, captures Adelstein’s daily descent into Tokyo’s corrupt underbelly.
It also stars Ken Watanabe, Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Keller, Ella Rumpf, Hideaki Ito, Show Kasamatsu and Tomohisa Tamashita. It was written and created by playwright J.T. Rogers, who also executive produces along with Adelstein, Elgort, Watanabe, Alan Poul, Emily Gerson Saines, Brad Kane, Destin Daniel Cretton, Kayo Washio and John Lesher.
It comes from Endeavor Content and Japanese pay-TV broadcaster Wowow.
Tokyo Vice starts streaming Thursday, April 7 on HBO Max, with the first three episodes becoming available. From there, two episodes will drop each week until the finale on April 28. In Japan, the series will air on the Wowow streaming service as well as on the Wowow linear channel.
