Nigel Cox-Hagan, an entertainment marketing executive who served on Promax’s board of directors, died of natural causes at home in Santa Monica, Calif., on March 1, 2022 at the age of 57.

Cox-Hagan last served as senior vice president of marketing, creative and branding at ABC Family, leading the network’s rebranding to Freeform. He departed Freeform in 2017. He also served on Promax’s board of directors.

Prior to joining Freeform, Cox-Hagan was EVP, creative and consumer at Viacom (now Paramount) -owned VH1 Networks, where he oversaw the rebrands of VH1 Classic and VH1 Soul. While there, he also took on branding and launch projects for MTV Networks, serving as creative director for Logo, Palladia and Centric.

Before that, he was director of on-air promotion and graphic design at G4. He also worked on branding projects for such networks as Nickelodeon, BET and Syfy. He started his career in 1991 at MTV, where he was promoted to senior promo producer and creative director until he departed in 1998. During that time, he led the team that oversaw the launch of MTV2 and stayed on to oversee that network’s creative department.

Cox-Hagan was born in London in 1964 to John and Mary Hagan and moved to the United States as a child. He graduated from Atholton High School in Columbia, Md., in 1982 and earned a B.A. in communications from Hampshire College in 1985.

He loved all things pop culture, including music, film, television, fashion, comics, animation and video games as well as art, history and literature. He also enjoyed traveling and sports and practiced martial arts.

Cox-Hagan is survived by his mother, Mary, and his brother, Marcus, and many friends. He was buried in Brandon, Fla., on March 29, next to his father, John.
