Netflix led the TV side with 19 nominations from the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which were revealed Wednesday.
Stranger Things and freshman series GLOW each received four noms, along with HBO’s Big Little Lies, for a three-way tie.
Acting nods went to Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour; GLOW’s Alison Brie and Marc Maron, and Big Little Lies’ Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgard and Reese Witherspoon.
Stranger Things was recognized once again in the ensemble drama series category, along with HBO’s Game of Thrones, Netflix’s The Crown, and rookie shows This Is Us from NBC and The Handmaid’s Tale from Hulu.
GLOW was the other newcomer with honors in the comedy ensemble and stunt ensemble categories.
GLOW co-creator Liz Flahive told Variety the success of the new series comes down to a talented cast of newbies not afraid to literally take a hands on approach.
“We knew that we wanted people you’ve never seen before,” Flahive told the publication. “We also needed actors who were also very game, really up to learn how to wrestle… The thing that we really learned, is that it might look like that there are two women in the ring beating the crap out of each other, but in fact, it’s great teamwork. You have to care-take your partner, and you have to make them look good. You have to sell their story.”
The SAG awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 21. Kristen Bell will host, and Morgan Freeman will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
