Britney Spears was the biggest pop star of the ‘90s and early 2000s. Now, she’s back in the culture for another reason: she’s in a huge battle to get out from under her father’s control due to a legal conservatorship that’s been in place for 13 years.
On Sept. 28, one day before Spears’ next conservatorship hearing, Netflix will unveil the latest documentary that tries to make sense of what’s happened to the former Princess of Pop. Britney vs Spears looks into the singer’s antagonistic relationship with her father, Jamie, and his team of lawyers who up until now has controlled nearly her every move, while she earned hundreds of millions of dollars.
Director Erin Lee Carr and journalist Jenny Eliscu spent more than a year uncovering new information—including text messages and voicemails—that tell a new side of the story.
The trailer is accompanied by voiceover of Britney herself from her June 23 testimony at the Los Angeles Superior Courthouse, where she addressed the issue publicly for the first time.
Netflix’s Britney vs Spears is a Story Syndicate production, in association with Carr Lot Productions. Carr is producing with Sarah Gibson, Kate Barry, Dan Cogan, Liz Garbus, Jon Bardin, Julie Gaither, Jenny Eliscu and Amy Herdy.
