Nat Geo returns to the Hot Zone with Hot Zone: Anthrax, a chilling retelling of events that took place just after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, when envelopes containing anthrax were anonymously sent to media organizations and members of Congress.

Five people died as a result of interacting with the anthrax, and it took the FBI years to finally zero in on a suspect.

The series tells the parallel stories of FBI agent Matthew Ryker (Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim) and brilliant but ultimately unstable microbiologist Dr. Bruce Ivins (Scandal’s Tony Goldwyn). It also stars Dawn Olivieri, Ian Colletti, Dylan Baker, Morgan Kelly, Denyce Lawton, Carlos Gonzalez-Vio, Vanessa Matsui, Enrico Colantoni as New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Harry Hamlin as NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw.

Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson serve as executive producers and showrunners. Scott Free Productions’ Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker are executive producers, with Jordan Sheehan also serving as executive producer along with Lynda Obst and Daniel Percival. Richard Preston is a co-executive producer. The series is produced by 20th Television and Scott Free Productions.

The three-night, six-episode event premieres Sunday, Nov. 28 on Nat Geo.
