The Winter Olympic Games are only weeks away, so NBC is beginning to reach out to partners leading up to its coverage to reach fans where they’re already buzzing about the event, and ensure that NBC can drive that conversation to on-air tune-in.
Building on a partnership that began with the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Facebook and NBC, along with Facebook’s Instagram, will work together to encourage Olympics chatter on Facebook and integrate Facebook conversations into the broadcast coverage. NBC also plans on premiering video content on Facebook, like its first feature here. The three-minute video tells the story of speed skater J.R. Celski and rapper Macklemore.
Also as part of the deal, Facebook fans will have the chance to submit questions to NBC’s Sarah Hughes during figure skating coverage. The NBC Olympics page on Facebook will also offer real-time information and stats throughout the Sochi Olympic Games, as well as shareable images and photo galleries.
The XXII Olympic Winter Games starts on Feb. 6, one day before the Opening Ceremony Feb. 7.
Brief Take: Facebook and Instagram are natural platforms for Olympics fans to follow along and take part, fostering an agreement that benefits both parties throughout this year’s Olympics coverage.
