In 1974, Dr. Timothy Leary was telling millions of people to “turn on, tune in and drop out,” and having an affair with his so-called “perfect love”—young Parisienne Joanna Harcourt-Smith.

But years later, we know that Leary became a narc in order to get out of jail time and that Harcourt-Smith might have had a role in all of that.

Oscar-winner Errol Morris (Wormword, The Fog of War) explores the pair’s relationship in new Showtime documentary My Psychedelic Love Story, premiering on the network on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Morris, who directed and produced the film, spent hours interviewing the late Harcourt-Smith about her time with Leary. Along the way, they explore the chaotic cultural period of the early 1970s and how it impacted Harcourt-Smith later.

My Psychedelic Love Story was the closing night selection at AFI Fest earlier this month and will also screen at DOC NYC next month. It’s produced for Showtime by Fourth Floor Productions and Moxie Pictures. Robert Fernandez and Steven Hathaway also produce.
