On September 15, Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to space, will blast off in a SpaceX Dragon capsule to spend three days orbiting around the Earth.

The capsule will contain four civilians, led and commanded by Jared Isaacman, an accomplished pilot and the founder and CEO of digital payment service Shift4 Payments. Joining Isaacman are Hayley Arceneaux, 29, a pediatric cancer survivor and physician assistant at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, who will be the youngest American ever to go to space, and the first with a prosthesis; Chris Sembroski, 41, a U.S. Air Force veteran and Lockheed Martin aerospace industry data engineer, and Dr. Sian Proctor, 51, a geosciences professor and science communicator at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.

Creative marketing agency Known already worked with Isaacman and Shift4 Payments, and when the mission was coming together late last year, Isaacman asked Known to brand the mission. Inspiration4 was born, but that was just the beginning.

Known worked with Bryce Dallas Howard to craft the above Super Bowl spot, calling for submissions from people who wanted to go to space themselves. As part of the ambitious project, Isaacman wanted to raise $200 million for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, so he called for donations—no matter how small—from people who were throwing their hats in the ring.

Last spring, the four astronauts were chosen and training began. Known worked with producers at Time Studios to document the entire process. They then sold that docu-series to Netflix, where it premieres globally as Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space on Sept. 6 with the first two episodes. On Sept. 13, the second two episodes featuring the preparation before launch will debut. On Sept. 15, Netflix will livestream the launch on its YouTube Channel. The final episode about the astronauts’ return to Earth will air at the end of September.

Mark Feldstein and Brad Roth, co-founders of Known and co-presidents of the studio at Known, join The Daily Brief Podcast to discuss this sprawling project from conception to premiere.
