“Ranching is the only business with the goal to break even … survive another season,” according to Paramount Network’s trailer for Yellowstone.
Kevin Costner stars as John Dutton, who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the U.S., and comes under constant attack by those it borders: land developers, an Indian reservation and America’s first national park.
Paramount describes the scripted drama as “the best and worst of America seen through the eyes of a family that represents both.”
“It is an intense study of a violent world far from media scrutiny—where land grabs make developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the world’s largest oil and lumber corporations,” the network said in a press release. “Where drinking water poisoned by fracking wells and unsolved murders are not news: they are a consequence of living in the new frontier.”
Shot on location in Utah and Montana, Yellowstone features picturesque landscapes, bucking broncos, gunfights, bar scenes, pow wows, explosions and more.
“All men are bad, but some of us try real hard to be good,” says Gil Birmingham’s character in the teaser.
The cast also includes Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Dave Annable, Danny Huston, Josh Lucas, Jefferson White, Gretchen Mol, Jill Hennessey, Patrick St. Esprit, Ian Bohen, Heather Hemmons, and Denim Richards.
It’s written and directed by Oscar-nominated Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, Hell or High Water, Sicario), and executive produced by John Linson, Art Linson, Taylor Sheridan and Costner. Ted Gold and Lauren Ruggerio serve as executives in charge of production for Paramount Network.
Yellowstone premieres June 20 at 9 p.m. on Paramount Network.
