Jimmy Kimmel’s popular “Mean Tweets” segment has gone local, with LA’s ABC affiliate enlisting the late-night host for a set of promos for its late newscast.

In the :15 and :30 spots, KABC 7’s Michelle Tuzee and Marc Brown appear in a setup similar to the celebs who read out mean tweets about themselves on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The staging is nearly identical, right down to the on-air graphics.

Halfway through both spots, Kimmel appears alongside Tuzee and Brown to share some advice. The anchors’ 11 p.m. newscast serves as the funnyman’s lead-in in the Los Angeles market.

The promos, which were launched as part of the station’s marketing around the Oscars, also help highlight Kimmel’s connection to L.A., according to Wendy McMahon, VP of programming and creative services at KABC 7. Jimmy Kimmel Live! tapes at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater.

The spots were made in-house by the KABC 7 Los Angeles creative services team.
