Grammy-nominated comedian Tig Notaro made waves in the comedy community when she spoke openly (and hilariously) about her breast cancer diagnosis during a 2012 set at the Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles.
She went on to sell that comedy special, Live, on Louis C.K.‘s website for $5 ($1 of which went to charity), where it quickly became one of the best-selling comedy albums of the year. It’s now available on iTunes.
The deadpan comedian is so much more than that one set, though, with an innovative mind that never stands still.
It’s that creative mind that brought on Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro, her new comedy special set to premiere April 17 on Showtime.
The special follows Notaro and fellow comedian Jon Dore traveling around the country, performing standup in fans’ living rooms, backyards and barns - wherever they have invited her to perform. The comedy special is a creative spin on the expected, following along the lines of Maria Bamford, who released an entire special of her performing in her parents’ living room, with her parents as the audience.
Notaro is currently on tour, set to record her next one-hour special in May this year.
To get a feel for her personality, here is Notaro’s announcement of the event, long before any official trailer. It includes a bonus 20 seconds of her wading through water just because.
And here is Showtime’s trailer, which should explain a bit more:
According to the duo, everything went according to plan, so much so that they have no interesting stories to tell on their recent trip to Conan. Thus concludes their informative promotional tour:
Notaro is also speaking at PromaxBDA: The Conference, which is in Los Angeles June 9-11. For more information about The Conference, visit promaxbda.org.
