“A corrupt, self-obsessed, inept moron who somehow becomes president of the United States? That’s the character that I play on HBO’s Veep,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus says with a smirk in a PSA encouraging Democrats to not just vote, but volunteer.
“But when I’m off of TV, I’m not a politician, I’m not an expert. I’m a citizen,” says in the spot. “And I know that the midterm election on November 6 is beyond important. It is vital.”
Standing with a group of volunteers of different ages and ethnicities, Louis-Dreyfus turns to them to touch on issues ranging from the environment and women’s rights, to immigration reform, attacks on the press, and affordable healthcare.
She also highlights her personal experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2017.
“I’m a cancer survivor too, and I’m really lucky because I had access to excellent health insurance even with a pre-existing condition,” she said. “And that’s the way it should be for absolutely everybody, and it’s not.”
The spot is part of Multiply Your Vote, a campaign by the organization Local Majority which seeks to turn the political tide from red to blue.
