Joe Kirkendall has been promoted to head of production at Cutter Studios’ Chicago-based integrated production arm, Dictionary Films, said Managing Director Chris Rossiter. Kirkendall has been a staff senior producer for the company since 2018.

Kirkendall is the first formal head of production in the company’s 15-year history. In this new role, Kirkendall will spearhead overall production strategy and project bidding while overseeing freelance producers, and also partnering with client relations, director scheduling and creative processes.

“While we’ve always been extremely proud of the production value we and our directors deliver for our clients, our standards have risen to even higher levels thanks to Joe, along with our Senior Producer Cody McGuire and our Production Manager Lilly Hanson,” Rossiter said in a statement. “As project demands continue to expand, increasing Joe’s responsibilities in these areas is going to be a win-win for us, our clients, and our partners.”

A graduate of Indiana University and a staple of Chicago film production for nearly 20 years, Kirkendall spent seven years freelancing for Dictionary Films before coming onboard as a senior producer. His most recent credits include producing commercials for WeatherTech, Amazon, McDonald’s, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Intel, to name but a few.

“Our roster of directors represents some of the best minds in the production business, and I love working for them all,” Kirkendall said, also in a statement. “Of course, Cutters is widely recognized as a leader in creative post-production services, which is no surprise given the depth and breadth of its talents. Our goal is to operate a production arm of the same caliber.”
