Hulu and CNN’s brand studio Courageous are back promoting women in three new cities on Women’s Equality Day, Monday, August 26, commemorating the adoption of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote. The “Shape the Future” effort will see statues of women raised in Atlanta, Boston and San Francisco to temporarily balance out the number of statues depicting women versus the much larger number of those depicting men.
In June, in advance of the season three premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu and Courageous partnered on a similar effort in New York City, adding 140 statues to address that city’s disparity of 145 statues of men versus just five of women.

There are similar disparities in each of the three cities hosting exhibits on Monday. In Atlanta, there are 62 statues with 56 honoring men and six featuring women. In Boston, there are 64 statues with 57 honoring men and seven featuring women. And in San Francisco, there are 72 statues with 68 honoring men and four featuring women.
In conjunction with this effort, WarnerMedia-owned Courageous also is launching an experiential team tasked with working with partners on similar activations.
“Courageous is able to leverage its storytelling expertise to film and then distribute content from events across WarnerMedia’s ecosystem, allowing marketers to reach a much broader audience than just in person, day-of,” Michal Shapira, senior vice president, head of content partnerships, news (CNN, HLN, Great Big Story) and Courageous Studios, said, according to The Drum.
Viewers can experience the installations on Monday, Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. In Atlanta, it will be located at The Plaza at Peachtree Center. In Boston, it will be at Faneuil Hall, and in San Francisco, it will be at the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero.
