To promote AMI-audio’s political sketch radio show, Double Exposure’s Newzapalooza, Canada’s AMI-tv decided to riff on the old-school political cartoons seen in newspapers. The print aesthetic fit thematically both with the program’s political satire and with the channel, which airs lots of audio magazines with narrators actually reading magazine and newspaper articles out loud to listeners.
AMI-tv also faces an additional challenge in that the non-profit channel is geared towards a blind and low-vision audience, so all of the promos and programming have to be accessible to that audience.
By creating literal visual representations of the audio, the channel was able to meet its accessibility standards, while still offering a fun promo for sighted viewers.
