HBO has named 17-year HBO veteran Chris Spadaccini as its new head of marketing.

Spadaccini replaces Pam Levine, who left HBO in September to join 20th Century Fox as president of marketing.

Spadaccini will oversee marketing for both HBO and Cinemax, directing all branding efforts, providing oversight for program marketing campaigns and guiding digital platform marketing efforts. He’ll report to HBO EVP Scott McElhone.

“Chris has worked across all aspects of consumer and product marketing and has been instrumental in evolving HBO’s brand marketing strategy and network identity,” McElhone said in a statement. “He played a pivotal role in the launch of both HBO Go and HBO Now, helped guide the marketing strategy of our digital platforms and developed campaigns for some of the network’s most iconic shows.”

“It is an impressive body of experience and makes him the ideal executive to lead the continued evolution of the network’s marketing efforts,” McElhone said.

Spadaccini moves up from executive vice president of brand and product marketing, a role he had held since June 2015 that involved leading the development and execution of brand marketing campaigns for HBO and Cinemax.

He joined HBO in 1999 as manager of program advertising and quickly rose up the ladder, spearheading marketing campaigns for high-profile shows such as Game of Thrones, Entourage and The Sopranos. His experience includes the development of national advertising and promotion campaigns for original series, sports, comedy, late-night and events programming.

Before joining HBO, Spadaccini worked at VH1 from 1997-1998 and began his career at PMK/HBH in 1996.

“It is an impressive body of experience,” McElhone said, “and makes him the ideal executive to lead the continued evolution of the network’s marketing efforts.”
