FX has just released a trailer for the X-Men spinoff series Legion.
The 30-second teaser for Legion entitled “Sunset,” follows mutant protagonist David Haller (Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey fame) and his romantic sundown encounter with a powerful woman (Rachel Keller). The two stand in front of each other, lock eyes and make a “heart” symbol with each of their hands and create a fire. The moment is a potential metaphor for how David—an all-powerful mutant with multiple personalities—accesses his powers of pyrokinesis (creating fire with the mind).
Based on the Marvel comics character Legion, David Haller (the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier) has struggled with mental illness since adolescence. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.
The series also stars Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton, and Bill Irwin.
Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley is the creator of the series, which is a co-production of Marvel Television and FX Productions.
Legion premieres Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
