Based on Octavia E. Butler’s novel, FX’s new series, Kindred, tells the story of Dana James (Mallori Johnson), a young Black woman and aspiring writer. She is settling into her new home in Los Angeles with her partner, Kevin (Micah Stock), when she suddenly finds herself not just sleep-walking, but being pulled back and forth across time.

The time she goes to is the American South in 1815, where she finds herself at a slave-holding plantation. Through this time travel, she discovers some difficult familial secrets.

Besides Johnson and Stock, Kindred also stars Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, David Alexander Kaplan, Sophina Brown and Sheria Irving.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins executive produces with Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields (The Americans, The Patient), Darren Aronofsky (The Whale, Black Swan) and Ari Handel of Protozoa Pictures, Courtney Lee-Mitchell and Jules Jackson. Janicza Bravo directed and served as an executive producer on the pilot. The eight-episode season is produced by FX Productions.

All episodes of Kindred start streaming December 13 on Hulu.
