FX debuted the official trailer for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which provides a first look at Edgar Ramirez as the renown fashion designer who was murdered in 1997 on the steps outside his Miami Beach mansion.
Season two of the anthology series also stars Ricky Martin as Versace’s partner Antonio D’Amico, Penelope Cruz as his sister Donatella, and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, the man who killed him.
Where previous teasers focused on the moments the gunshots rang out, FX’s trailer goes deeper into the murderer himself. Cunanan killed four people before Versace, and committed suicide eight days after gunning down the fashion designer.
“This world has wasted me,” Cunanan says in the trailer. “And yet this world also made you, Mr. Versace, into a star. You’re not better than me. We’re the same. The only difference is that you got lucky.”
The Assassination of Gianni Versace is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Brad Falchuk and written by Tom Rob Smith. Series creators Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are not returning for the second season, which premieres January 17 on FX.
