When Trevor Noah takes over Jon Stewart’s seat next month at The Daily Show, Comedy Central will have an entire multiplatform strategy to back him up.
The network announced an expanded digital content plan on Thursday for the award-winning series, adding Baratunde Thurston to the Comedy Central late-night team to supervise multiplatform content going forward.
Thurston, who Comedy Central calls a “digital entrepreneur-comedian-writer-author-performer,” will be tasked with creating and spreading original content across The Daily Show’s digital and social platforms, working with Noah and the show’s executive producers.
The goal is to meet The Daily Show’s viewers and fans where they are, with mobile, social and Web content where they tend to see the show (not always on the air) while “keeping it organic to The Daily Show mission,” the network said in a statement.
“This must be what it’s like to have Nick Fury call and welcome you to The Avengers. I’m honored and floored and so many other verbs,” said Thurston. “Also, I really love that quote by Michele Ganeless because she makes me sound like Liam Neeson. I will definitely be sharing that on multiple digital and social outlets.”
Prior to this, Thurston was the president and co-founder of Cultivated Wit, co-host of the podcast About Race, author and digital director of The Onion.
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah debuts Monday, Sept. 28 on Comedy Central.
