“Good music is gonna find good people,” says Chad Michael Murray as Sam Phillips in the upcoming CMT original series Sun Records. “I believe that in my heart and soul.”

The limited scripted series follows Murray as he portrays the ambitious Memphis, Tenn., founder of Sun Records, a seminal 1950s music label responsible for launching the careers of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash, and further helped develop what would be known globally as rock ‘n’ roll.

The trailer takes us back to the 1950s in Memphis where Sam Phillips stands at the crossroads of an emerging sound rooted in African-American gospel, blues and swing and later mainstreamed by the talents on his label.

Formerly known as Million Dollar Quartet, the show is based on a Tony Award-winning musical, and also stars Billy Gardell as Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker, Drake Milligan as Presley, Kevin Fonteyne as Cash, Christian Lees as Lewis, and Kerry Holliday as Turner.

Sun Records premieres Thursday, Feb. 23 at 10 p.m. ET on CMT.
