The gang from Donald Glover’s FX comedy, Atlanta, returns to where it all began in the above season-four announcement tease from global creative and production studio The Mill.

The spot starts with a shot of the liquor store where audiences first met Earn (Glover), Paper Boi (Bryan Tyree Henry), Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) and Van (Zazie Beetz) and then gave the setting a surreal twist. While there, viewers will encounter a falling piano, a hatched and rapidly growing ostrich, a red-and-white-striped alligator and Darius arriving in a car that’s not really a car.

“We returned to that location and post retro-fitted it to appear like it did six years ago. Production schedules were a benefit for visual effects as we shot the talent on a greenscreen stage with a view to recreate the scene as it was in the show,” said Rob Hodgson, creative director at The Mill, on the company’s website. “The original boards featured characters and events from the show that were surreal from the start – including a fast-growing ostrich, regrowing peach trees and a wall-climbing alligator. These elements were heightened and added to in post, with Easter Eggs and a Dali-esque melting of the background to create a bizarre dream-like world. Time-ramps on the main characters completed the feel of the show, described early on by its creator Donald Glover as ‘Twin Peaks with rappers’.”

Atlanta returns for its fourth and final season on FX and Hulu on September 15.
