Yu+Co’s main title sequence for Apple TV Plus’ Shrinking brings metaphor to life as figures loosely crafted to look like the show’s characters blindly follow each other through a hedge maze in the hopes that one of them knows the way out.

The series tells the story of therapist Jimmy (series creator and executive producer Jason Segel) who is mourning his wife. Perhaps because of his state of mind, Jimmy starts telling his patients exactly what he thinks instead of gently coaxing them with “how do you feel …” questions. As a result, both Jimmy and his patients start seeing huge changes in their lives – and they maybe aren’t quite ready to handle all of them.

Yu+Co modeled the figures in the style of Lionel train figurines and applied a painterly effect to photo-real renders of the hedge. In the sequence, the figures have to help each other through the maze, much like people need to help each other get through the thorns of life.

Shrinking stars Segel along with Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Christa Miller and Lukita Maxwell.

The show is written by Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Scrubs) along with Segal, Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), Brian Gallivan, Rachna Fruchbom, Bill Posely, Annie Mebane, Wally Baram, Sofi Selig and Neil Goldman. Shrinking is directed by James Ponsoldt, Ry Russo-Young, Randall Winston and Zach Braff. Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Segal, Goldman, Goldstein, Ponsoldt and Winston executive produce.
