Apple TV Plus’ upcoming limited series, Pachinko, based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Min Jin Lee. It tells its multigenerational story in Korean, Japanese and English as it spans the globe across several decades.
The story starts prior to World War II and centers around Sunja (Minha Kim), a young woman from a small Korean village who has a secret and ruinous love affair with entrepreneur Koh Hansu (Lee Min-Ho). She is saved by a newcomer to her village, Isak, who marries her and takes her to Osaka. There, she learns that Koreans are not treated well by the Japanese.
Oscar winner Youn Yuh-Jung (Minari) plays an older version of Sunja. The series also features Soji Ara, Inji Jeong, Kaho Minami, Steve Sanghyun Noh, Anna Sawai, Junwoo Han, Eun Chae Jung, Jimmi Simpson and Yu-na Jeon.
Pachinko is written and executive produced by Soo Hugh (The Terror), who also serves as showrunner.
Pachinko will premiere with three episodes on Apple TV Plus on Friday, March 25, and will be followed by new weekly installments every Friday through April 29.
