“I was there until the very end,” says Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), confirming the death of team leader Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) in the season six teaser for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

But the teaser also drops a twist at the end, showing a shot of Coulson apparently alive after all, claiming he’s never heard of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The spot also focuses on the struggles of Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie (Henry Simmons) as he steps in as the new director and the team moves on from his loss, dealing with threats from Thanos and trying to find Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) in deep space.

The series is co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to ABC this summer.
