Jeff Zucker has been in charge at CNN for about a year now, and according to a new interview conducted by Capital, he wants CNN to be more primetime, less news.
CNN’s top-rated show is currently “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown,” and Zucker wants to use its success to guide other programming decisions, such as adding more documentaries like “Blackfish,” about killer whales, as well as unscripted series.
Zucker also noted CNN’s increasing focus in the digital space, and said the organization is paying more attention to CNN.com. CNN also is planning new second-screen products for its mobile viewers.
CNN’s HLN is also getting a face lift, straying from coverage of the courts in favor of reimagined programming under the network’s new leader, Albie Hecht.

Brief Take: Zucker’s goals for CNN are ambitious, but it remains to be seen if this new way of thinking will bring in new viewers, new advertisers and most importantly, new dollars to the veteran news net.
