And the award for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ first official digital partner goes to… Yahoo!

At the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 22, Yahoo! will be the official online destination for the event’s red carpet and other behind-the-scenes content, including the Academy’s Backstage Live coverage. Yahoo! has more than 700 million users worldwide, which will drastically expand the reach of the telecast.

Showcased on a hub within Yahoo! TV, the Internet company will also feature live coverage leading up to the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, including the nominations announcements on July 18, as well as post-awards content including an online-only series called “An Evening With,” featuring interviews with TV series creators and stars.

Brief Take: This is a savvy move by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which gets to tap into Yahoo’s network of more than 700 million users worldwide. Meanwhile, Yahoo!‘s ever-growing content machine gets a boost in prestige by associating with the TV industry’s most high-profile awards show.
