Fox’s new reality singing show, The Masked Singer, looks both incredibly weird and incredibly intriguing.
The concept, which comes to Fox by way of South Korea, is this: celebrity competitors don an elaborate costume and try to conceal their identities from a panel of celebrity judges composed of Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke (and apparently guest judge Joel McHale, pictured above), with Nick Cannon hosting and executive producing.
“This is truly one of the most unique, genre-defining formats I’ve ever seen,” said Rob Wade, president, alternative entertainment and specials, Fox Broadcasting Company, in a statement. “It’s a massive international hit, and its boldness and originality make it the perfect fit for Fox.”

Between them, the show’s competitors have amassed a total of 65 Grammy nominations, 16 Emmy nominations, 16 multi-platinum albums, nine Broadway shows, four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and four Super Bowl titles (that last one is throwing us for a little bit of a loop).
The Masked Singer is produced by Endemol Shine North America and was developed for the U.S. and is executive produced by Craig Plestis. Izzie Pick Ibarra also serves as an executive producer, and Alex Rudzinski will direct. Cannon and Nikki Varhely Gillingham serve as co-executive producers. The Masked Singer is based on the South Korean format, King of Masked Singer, created by Mun Hwa Broadcasting Corp.
