Twitter gave the world a preview on Wednesday of what its next evolution will likely look like: the social media platform offered a high-definition live stream from Wimbledon. On Wednesday, it covered Roger Federer’s hard-fought defeat of Czech star Marin Cilic to move on to the semi-finals.

“Twitter is increasingly a place where people can find live-streaming video, and that includes exciting sporting events like Wimbledon,” a Twitter spokesperson told Adweek via email. “This livestream is an extremely early and incomplete test experience, and we’ll be making lots of improvements before we launch it in its final form.”

To see the livestream, head to Wimbledon’s official Twitter account.

Viewers can watch the streaming HD video while reading tweets about the event and individual matches in the column to the right.

In the case of Wimbledon, ESPN owns both the broadcast and digital streaming rights to the matches, so Twitter worked with ESPN and Wimbledon on certain live streams, such as analysis, interviews and other moments from the tournament, reports Recode. Twitter can’t stream the matches themselves due to ESPN owning the rights, but it can offer lots of other streaming video content.

Twitter’s Wimbledon stream is an early look at what it will be offering this fall when it streams NFL games on Thursday night, a privilege for which the social platform paid $10 million.
