Tribune Broadcasting tapped NBCUniversal exec Devin C. Johnson as their new SVP, Head of Digital on Monday, putting him in charge of all product development, social, content, technology and digital sales strategy at the company.
The move marks a return to the Tribune fold for Johnson, who began his media career at Tribune Interactive.
For the past seven years Johnson has served in a variety of digital and financial roles at NBCUniversal, most recently as GM of Digital Works@NBCU, the content marketing division.
He also led the company’s digital innovation efforts, and worked in the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis Group.
Johnson will begin his new job on March 10, reporting to President/Broadcast Media Larry Wert. He and his family will remain in Chicago.
“Devin has both the vision and the operational experience to help Tribune Broadcasting redefine how we serve our audience,” Wert said in announcing Johnson’s hiring. “He is an innovative leader and we look forward to having him back at Tribune.”
The news of Johnson’s appointment is the third major job announcement out of Tribune Broadcasting in a week.
Last Tuesday, Marshall Hites was promoted to SVP Creative Services with oversight of all 42 of the company’s owned or operated stations. And last Thursday, David Hyman was named to the top creative services job at flagship station PIX11 in New York City.
Brief Take: The management and marketing team continues to come into place at the vastly expanded Tribune Broadcasting group.
