April 6 is a big night for HBO, with its new series, “Silicon Valley,” and season premieres of “Veep” and “Game of Thrones” on tap. Later in the month, “The Daily Show’s” John Oliver will launch his new weekly program, “Last Week Tonight.” Over the weekend, HBO came out with promos for all of the shows at once, touting April as the month to tune into HBO.
Starting off with the April 27 debut of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” HBO pushed the timeliness of its news coverage. The narrator touts it as “a show whose schedule reflects our fast-paced world” which leads to Oliver continuing to correct him: “A show that airs once a week, on Sunday nights, at 11:00.”
Breaking news… on a weekly basis:
Next, cable’s favorite funny politician Julia Louis-Dreyfus ponders another run for the White House for “Veep” Season 3: “I’d rather be shot in the face than serve as Vice President again. Seriously, in the f**king face.” (“Veep” is not a show for those easily offended by bad language.)
A new :90 trailer for “Game of Thrones” called “Secrets” focuses on the family drama coming to season four of the fantasy epic. As the show’s many factions gear up for battle, many of the characters face their own demons as well.
Lastly, the guys from “Silicon Valley” make an appealing case for their startup in a new promo for the show’s April 6 debut. They also get distracted by which music genre they most resemble, little things like figuring out how to run a startup and of course, the ladies.
