“The reign of the middle-aged white man is over,” says Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) as she steps into the role of Madam President for the final season of Netflix’s House of Cards.
A season six teaser focuses on her speech outlining her first 100 days in the Oval Office which “have been difficult.”
“It’s going to be different for you and me,” she says, addressing the nation.
She also breaks the fourth wall, staring directly into the camera as she talks of her late husband: “Here’s the thing, whatever Francis told you the last five years? Don’t believe a word of it.”
Spacey was let go from the series last year following allegations of sexual assault and harassment. Netflix halted production in early 2018, and the sixth season was shortened from 13 to eight episodes.
In addition to Wright, season six stars Diane Lane, Greg Kinnear, Cody Fern, Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver.
Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese serve as showrunners and executive producers along with Wright, David Fincher, Joshua Donen, Dana Brunetti, Eric Roth, Michael Dobbs and Andrew Davies.
House of Cards returns November 2 on Netflix.
