When the Special Olympics USA Games Organizing Committee tasked creative agency Publicis Seattle with coming up with a logo for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, the committee liked the logo they got, but when the agency pressed them, they admitted that they didn’t love it.
But Publicis Seattle had an idea: Bring in Special Olympics athletes who are also artists and get their input into what the logo should look like. So the committee brought in nine Special Olympians for three days of designing in Orlando.
The result is the 2022 USA Games logo, featuring a super colorful palette in the shape of an “O,” representing both the Olympics and Orlando.

Oscar-winning documentary short filmmaker Rayka Zehtabchi (Period. End of Sentence.) captured the process and made the above short film.
“It is an honor to be part of the team that created the logo,” Special Olympics athlete Lee Savage said. “This was so important to us because Special Olympics is such an important part of our lives. We are proud of the logo and hope it can be an inspiration to society.”
