When Kelli Miller and Kendra Eash started Brooklyn-based creative agency And/Or in 2014, they wanted to create a studio where they could practice the kind of creative they craved. At the time, Miller was at Trollbäck+Company, where she led creative on the Promax Silver-winning main titles for HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver:
Eash was at Edelman, and while she was there she wrote a piece for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency titled “This is a Generic Brand Video.” A video company called Dissolve saw the piece and asked if they could create a video to accompany it using their own stock video. The piece and the video went viral, accumulating millions of views.
The net effect was to cause them to wonder if they could do that sort of creative for a living, so they decided to launch their own agency in the same year that they married. The range of work they’ve created in the past six years proves they are living their creative dream.
As a queer couple as well as business partners, Miller and Eash also doubled down on their commitment to diversity, inclusion and representation, all of which is in the cultural spotlight as protests against police brutality rage on and people celebrate Pride, even if only virtually.
Miller and Eash discussed all of that in this episode. Listen in to the conversation here:
